Book making is an integral part of my practice. I value their everyday use as stores of knowledge and ideas in relation to the themes I am exploring. Each book I like to think of as a reference journal, communicating concepts within my evolving practice. I also find the idea of books without words engaging, inspired by the ideas of Barthes and ‘The Death of the Author’ - how the reader, or in this case the viewer, has “more control” over how they read the images, they no longer belong to the artist or the author, becoming manifestations of somebody else’s reality.
